The Berclair Mansion was actually built in 1936 and has 22 room, 10,000 square feet fireproof house with 10 bedrooms and six bathrooms. But the most amazing feature of the house was the 60 tons of structural steel used to build the home. And, beneath the wooden floors are sub-floors of cement. In 1936 it was the largest steel structure single family home in the United States. It is thought that the house, which also includes an attic and full basement, cost between $50,000 and $100,000 to build.
Tours of the Berclair Mansion are being conducted on the last Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 pm. Cost is $10.00 per person. All ages.361-358-4480
